A New Era

I have not posted in some time I know but I have been thinking about my health. I have embarked on a new era of trying to eat a bit healthier. I purchased myself a Kitchen Ninja 1200 Series and have started to make my own fruit and Veg smoothies.

The Pizza House of Columbus Ohio (Wings Review)

Ok so it has been a ling time since I last posted. Do not be worried by the long absense, I am Still The Fat Brit and have been gorging on many food delights to the point of lethargic apathy, hence the lack of posts! So here I am to bring another review, this one is of "The Pizza House of Columbus Ohio" Oh were they any good you are wondering? Answer in a nutshell is They were the dogs bollocks! My friend Cliff suggested we go try the place out having heard favorable mentions about the place. I did not need much persuading as wings is a personal weakness of mine! We braved the sub zero temperatures and I braved Cliff's driving and off we went in our persuit of perfgect wings. We arrived to find the place quiet, Only one other customer but it was a freezing cold day and 2.30 in the afternoon on a weekday. A quick once over of the menu and 24 wings were promptly ordered. Cliff requested a selection of sauces in addition to the HOT wings, he wanted to sample the available flavors. In a reasonable amount of time we were presented with a huge pile of napkins, 24 wings, a huge bowl of ranch dressing, blue cheese dressing and bowls of Mild, BBQ and Extra hot sauces. The wings already had hot sauce on them. I can honestly say that the experience was one of sheer bliss and joy and in no time we were done and full, my shirt was covered in an array of sauces and dips as were my hands and face. My only regret? Did not have a camera to show how good they looked as well as tasted. Overall Verdict? When can I go again?? Thanks for reading..... Greg

Vegetable stir fry

This evening I was still full from the wings I ate earlier, incidentally for anyone who read the earlier post regarding the chicken wings. I did end up succumbing to the call of the remaining wings!

I was prepared and quite happy to skip dinner all together until Kathy beckoned me to the grill so she could show me something. Something was a medley of vegetables that was being cooked on the grill using

The medley consisted of Zucchini, onion, red and green peppers, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, Italian dressing and Trader Joe's 21 Spice Seasoning, a joyous combination that packed a flavorful punch that even this British Carnivore enjoyed!

If you like vegetables, or if you just feel like a change from the usual suspects that are made on the grill, do yourself a favor and buy yourself a Barbecue basket, grab some of your favorite veg and seasonings and whip up a tasty alternative to the usual fair that will please both the vegetarian and meat lover alike.

Overall verdict: Mmmmmmmm!

The Best Breakfast and Sandwiches - Westerville Ohio

This morning I was pretty sleepy and decided to skip breakfast, Kathy knocked on my door and said she and Cliff were off to get breakfast and did I want to come. I remember vaugly mumbling something before falling back asleep. What's all this blabber I hear you saying, what's this got to do with food reviews, well I am going to get there so please read on.

I eventually stumbled out of bed and downstairs and made myself 3 fried eggs on toast and a huge mug of tea, now I must intreject here that I am of course reffering to English Tea, I have no other Tea in my vocabulary apart from ice tea! After finishing my breakfast I was stuffed and thinking to myself perhaps 3 eggs was a little much, then it happened........

Kathy and Cliff returned from breakfast and placed a plastic bag with 2 cartons inside of it, in front of me and pronounced"We have brought you a present". Curious I fummbled inside to find a huge 3 LB portion of Hot Wings, 3 tubs of hot sauce, several celary sticks and some dressing.

Oh no my stomach yelled as my eyes surveyed the goodnesss that had been sat before me, oh no here we here we go again. My brain chirped in saying looks good but right now I am not hungry, however after chants of "Just one wing" I decided reluctantly to taste one.

One is all I am having I told myself as I dipped into the hot sauce, just the one!, well that was like the proverbial alcoholic telling himself just the one!. I immediately had a second, then a third and as the flavor reverberated inside my mouth exploding in joyous extacy of flavors I knew the wings had me. One is never enough!

I did manage to stop myself half way through and placed the remainder out of reach where I felt I might be safe, at least for now!.

Verdict: The Best Breakfast and Sandwiches has the best wings also!

Cafe Istanbul

Today I went to Cafe Istanbul with my friend Cliff.
Located in Easton Town Center, Cafe Istanbul
offers a  good selection of Turkish Cuisine.

I had been yearning for something different, a taste of Turkish Kebab's!. I have been thinking how different a Gyros is from a Doner kebab and how I yearned the taste of a Doner Kebab for some time. The only problem was there was nowhere that sold Doner Kebabs, especially in Columbus, Ohio,
well I was wrong........ enter Cafe Istanbul!

The complimentary bread that is served is superb and I do mean superb,
it is served with an infused olive oil dipping sauce which is just amazing.

I opted for the Lunch Special which comprised of a starter, main and dessert all for $9.95

My starter of Lentil Soup was packed with goodness and flavor that kept unfolding, it was delightful, it came with a wedge of lemon which I found a little odd but in the great spirit of when in Rome do as the Romans do, I squeezed some lemon juice into my soup. Wow is all I can say, who knew a simple squeeze of lemon would unlock a hidden dimension within an already outstanding soup.

My main course, Doner Kebab was superb. I could really taste the meatiness and flavor of the Lamb and the Beef!, Wow and the texture was amazing. The side of hot sauce which we requested to be extra hot! did not dissonant. It was simply delicious.
The almond dessert rounded things off nicely. It was delicate yet full of flavor.

The only fault I could find, which was easy to overlook given the flavor of the dishes served was the temperature of the food. Unfortunately this British eater is cursed with a pallet that demands dishes be piping hot!, that is straight from the pot or oven hot, and straight to the table. It is an affliction I have had for as long as I can remember and is sometimes a curse!

Overall a wonderful place that was clean, had friendly wait staff and most importantly GREAT FOOD!

Starbucks in Giant Eagle 161 and Busch Blvd, Columbus, Ohio

Stopped at this Starbucks location yesterday, Took nearly 10 minutes for the staff to make 1 drip coffee and a vanilla frappachino. The drip coffee was warm and not hot, that was before adding cream and it was made AFTER the frappachino so not because was sat there.

I complained and the girl offered to "warm it up". I declined and as polietly as I could explained I wanted a fresh coffee and not an old one warmed up in the microwave. I was told it would take 1o minutes to make a fresh one so I asked for a refund for which I had to go to the customer service desk, Meantime we discovered the vanilla frappachino was caramel and not vanilla so 25 minuites after ordering we finally had our $6.00 back.

10 minutes to make drip coffee really?

Disappointing

Chicken Salad and Strawberry Smoothie

Last night for supper I had Chicken Salad with a Strawberry Smoothie.

Last night when I got home I was not much thinking about eating, that was until Cliff decided to start mentioning various dishes ending with an offer of Chicken Salad and Smoothies.

I could not resist and reluctantly accepted not wanting to offend the feelings of my hosts. That was a smart move on my part because I almost missed out on the best darn Chicken Salad and Strawberry Smoothie ever.

The Chicken Salad compromised of canned chicken, olives, peppers, 21 spice, Cayenne Pepper,  21 spice salute and Mayo. It was awesome!

Unfortunately due to copyright reasons and intellectual property rights combined with the fact Cliff is a French Canadian, all I am allowed to divulge about the Strawberry Smoothie is that it did indeed contain Strawberries!

Another satisfying meal courtesy of Cliff and Kathy!

At this rate it looks like I will never loose weight LOL.
